ON THE HIGHWAY

There’s a calm upon the highway
Quiet and still
What I’d give to smell some diesel
Pouring out of a twin chrome steeple
On my knees out on this highway
Daddy owned a Holy Bible
He lived the Gospel every day
Tried to teach me a thing or two
Daddy never knew a woman like you
On my knees out on this highway
Tap, tap, tap, tapped out of luck
A thousand miles from home
My feet are tired and my soul is bare
Sweet Jesus, hear my prayer
On my knees out on this highway
Prayers are seldom answered on the highway
You catch a ride or you walk alone
What I’d give to smell some diesel
Pouring out of a twin chrome steeple
On my knees out on the highway
My feet are aching and my soul is bare
Sweet Jesus, hear my prayer
On my knees out on this highway |
